LOUIS XV
The Louis XV marble fireplace is a celebration of sensuous curves – another design originating in 18th century France. The carving evident in this elegant chimney piece is a genuine challenge to the craftsman’s skills. More
Louis XV (1710–1774) ruled as King of France and of Navarre from 1 September 1715 until his death on 10 May 1774.
His court became integrally involved in the development of the arts. This delicate style, most notable its graceful, sinuous C-curves, uniquely achieves balance with uneven opposing curves. The Louis XV marble fireplace is a good example of this style.
